Physiolates consists of a series of exercises which aims to strengthen the body, in particular the spine. Physiolates has many benefits, some of which include:
• Improved posture
• Pain relief – due to improved movement patterns and increased muscle strength and endurance
• Long term role in the prevention of recurrent spinal problems
• Improved breathing patterns, which ensure a reduction in muscle tension and therefore pain
• Improved body awareness
• Improved athletic performance – corrects muscle imbalances of specific sports and the associated overuse injuries
Pre-screening by a physiotherapist will apply to new attendees to help identify areas of weakness and ensure correct technique. It takes approximately 16 weeks to strengthen your muscle system.

Osteoporosis means porous bones, and it is a disease that is not ususally diagnosed until a person presents with a fracture. It is known as the “silent” disease. One in two women and one in three men have osteoporosis. The Irish Osteoporosis Society is an excellent resource and has extensive information on the risk factors associated with osteoporosis and its management. Exercise, both weight-bearing, progressive strength training (PRT) and high intensity progressive strength training (HiPRT) has been shown to be highly effective in restoring bone health in combination with other interventions. If you are concerned that you may have Osteoporosis, contact your GP for a full Bone Health screen.
The clinic has specialised in the treatment and management of osteoporosis. We have designed a specific programme for osteopenia and osteoporosis. Our Osteofit classes and the choice of exercises in each class Is based on international research, which includes weight–bearing, strength training and balance exercises – all important in the improvement of your bone density and reversal of osteoporosis. Balance and co-ordination re-training is very important, as it prevents falls and therefore reduces your risk of fracture. We have seen excellent outcomes and improvements within our group on repeat DEXA scans.
