Yin Yoga (mat class)
Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga that emphasizes passive stretching and the release of tension in the body. It targets the fascia, ligaments, and joints rather than focusing solely on the muscles.
What to expect:
- long holds - we'll hold each asana (posture) passively for 2 to 5 minutes to work deeply into tissues in order to release tension. Although the asanas themselves are not challenging, the length for which we're holding them can sometimes be challenging, physically and/or mentally so we remind ourselves to return to the breath and go inward. We are facing the tension in order to release it.
- seated and reclined postures - since we don't apply much physical effort in yin yoga, most of the asanas are done lying down or seated, supported by props such as blankets, blocks and cushions
- deep focus on relaxation & breath
- enhanced flexibility - yin yoga is a wonderful practice to improve your flexibility/ range of motion by gently and deeply stretching connective tissue.
