A class to strengthen all the muscles that are important for a safe and nourishing yoga practice. Using pilates-inspired exercises and other strength building techniques we'll work on our core (abdominals), glutes, legs, and arms -- plus work on using our breath as a tool.
Yin Yoga is a floor-based practice. We find stillness and use gravity, props to support the body and of course our breath to find a sweet spot within a moderate stretch that we can relax into and be still for the duration. We hold posture for 3-6 minutes. With these long and deep stretches we mildly stress (in a good way) the joints and fascia, allowing them to release.
Yin Yoga has been shown to improve bone and joint health, to regulate the body's flow of energy, to calm the body's nervous system which decreases inflammation, and to boost stamina and immunity.
Useful props for the class -- a bolster (alternatively a pillow), a block (alternatively a densely folded towel or book), a strap (alternatively a belt).
