Skating/Edgework

The most important skill for all hockey players is skating and having the agility and balance on their edges to perform the spectrum of actions involved in the sport of hockey. Focus areas will be:

  • Proper skating stride (knee bend, extension, and stride return to under the body)
  • Edge control (inside, outside, and flat part of blade) and how strong edge control applies to other actions within hockey.
  • Crossovers, backwards skating, and skating with the puck on stick.

While each clinic week has a specific emphasis, we will continue to work on the fundamental skills of skating, edgework, passing, shooting, and stickhandling each week.

Clinics will also include small area games where players learn to apply the skills they learned in game-like situations.
